Dreamscapes come from my desire to connect, through nature, with the mystery and impermanence of life. They are imaginary places of my mind, loosely based on landscapes I may have once seen. My goal is to capture an atmospheric, sensual expression of timelessness and contemplation experienced while in nature. I work with the qualities of light and depth, imagination and reality, to create a dreamlike scene resting between stillness and motion. |

Reflections began with the concept of trees reflected in the river at a park in northern California and transformed into a way of expressing the reflective and philosophical quality of nature through the recursive characteristics it creates. |

These paintings are inspired by colors’ ability to transport me to a transcendent state where reality and immateriality merge. Each painting has an entry point into immeasurable existence beyond the constraints of the canvas that expresses my inner perception of the ethereal. |
SeaDreams

Water is a powerful inspiration in much of my work, especially the ocean waves and the open sea. The Sea Dreams paintings are an expression of the almost infinite and perpetual dance of the waves, the transparency of the colors, and the vastness of the sea and sky. The paintings are not specific locations; they are a culmination of the sights, sounds, feelings, and overall atmosphere of tropical waters plus the sensation of diving in the deep blue water with no land in sight. |
Transitions

The connecting link in these paintings is the long steady brushstrokes, a meditative back and forth motion, used to create multiple horizons and subtle transitions between colors. The first horizon line I put down is the impulse for the entire painting. These paintings express the pure joy I experience seeing the creamy oil paint mix and spread on the canvas and feeling the emotions emerging while painting. |
